In this course your PADI Instructor takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. You start in a pool or pool-like conditions and progress to the open water (ocean, lake, quarry, etc.) getting the background knowledge along the way. For this reason, this is the most popular diving course in the industry.

PADI’s Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool (or pool-like environment) to practice these skills with your instructor. Later, as a certified diver, use the course materials as a reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you learned. Save time on your next vacation by skipping the elementary scuba instruction – you’ll be ready to dive right in and start enjoying!
What are the Prerequisites?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you are between 12 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available. For certification information for 10 and 11 year olds, please contact [email protected] A PADI Jr Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 11 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
What will I do in the course?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water lake dives.
How long does the course run?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. Midland Dive Association has a variety of schedules to meet most individuals’ needs. We offer private courses for those who want a more personal experience in learning to dive.
Is there an E-learning option?
Convenience of taking classes online on your own time. Saves time driving to and from Midland Dive Association for class sessions. You can go as fast or as slow as you want.
What is the required diving equipment?
Midland Dive Association will deliver the scuba equipment to the pool and lake sessions. There is no extra charge for use of the rental equipment. You are responsible for your mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves. We have a large selection to choose from, and offer many student specials. You may also rent these for the class.
